John P. Ball works in the Banking and Finance department and the Litigation department. He concentrates his practice in the areas of transactions and litigation in banking, commercial law and corporations. He represents creditors, developers, and national and local banks and large transactions in commercial litigation. Examples of litigation include representation in loan defaults and guarantee actions for upwards of $50 million. Representative clients include JP Morgan Chase N.A., BankFirst, First Utah Bank and Affinity Bank. He is currently the vice-president of the Utah State Bar Banking and Finance section and will become president of that section in 2010. John graduated, cum laude, from West Virginia University with a bachelor of science in business administration concentrating in the area of finance. He worked for several years as a financial analyst with Electronic Data Systems and was later commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, John served as a navigator on the C-130 Hercules and flew missions in theaters throughout the world. In 1991 John was deployed with his squadron to the United Arab Emirates in support of the first Persian Gulf War. After leaving the Air Force, John graduated in 2002 from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah where he received the Outstanding Achievement Award in Legal Writing. He served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Chief Justice Richard C. Howe of the Utah Supreme Court. While in law school, John served as Editor-in-Chief of the Utah Law Review.
