Gordon Roberts is a shareholder in the Litigation department where he is engaged full time in trial and litigation practice. His experience includes substantive work in complex commercial torts, toxic waste litigation, labor litigation, intellectual properties (trade secrets and patent infringement), commercial contract cases, mining laws, product liability, and major tort litigation. Gordon served as trial counsel in connection with various litigation matters arising out of the death of Howard Hughes. He was co-trial counsel in the Hughes domicile case where he represented the estate of Howard R. Hughes in an original proceeding before the United States Supreme Court dealing with conflicting claims of the domicile of Mr. Hughes at the time of his death.
Gordon was chief trial counsel in a landmark case forcing Interior Secretary Babbitt to issue patents on land with a gross value of $10,000,000,000 in gold. Gordon also served as chief counsel for plaintiffs in a case which resulted in GE doing a nationwide recall of defective coffee makers.
On various occasions, Gordon has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Utah College of Law. Most recently, he taught an advanced litigation seminar to third year students. He has contributed legal writings for publication to the University of Utah Law Review and is a frequent contributor to litigation related continuing legal education. In recent years, he has presented papers and remarks on a variety of litigation subjects before the Utah State Bar, the Salt Lake County Bar, the Federal Bar Association, insurance groups and industry groups.
