We have one of the largest litigation departments in the Intermountain region. Our trial lawyers take an interdisciplinary approach, assembling appropriate teams for each client's need. Environmental Law, Energy and Natural Resources
Parsons Behle & Latimer has one of the largest environmental, energy and natural resources practices in the western United States. Our practice is national and international in scope with particular emphasis on the western United States and Latin America. More than 20 attorneys focus on this area of the practice, many with state and federal regulatory agency backgrounds.
We advise corporate and individual clients on virtually all aspects of environmental law, energy and natural resources law.
This area of our practice covers mining and mineral processing, oil and gas, water rights, public lands, energy and electrical power, air and water quality, hazardous waste, Superfund and Brownfields, and climate change regulations. In these and other areas we advise and assist clients with regard to transactions and finance, project development and closure, property acquisition and title work, permitting, compliance, enforcement, cost recovery, rate cases, litigation, rulemakings and legislation.
Our labor and employment law practice is the broadest and most extensive in Utah focusing on the needs of employers. Many of our attorneys practice exclusively in the labor and employment law area and a number of others devote a portion of their practice to aspects of employment law.
Employment issues we handle in this practice area include litigation defense for claims of wrongful discharge, discrimination or sexual harassment. In addition, we also provide experienced outside legal counsel in the areas of employee benefits and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), workers’ compensation, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Mountain States Health Alliance (MSHA), immigration and the National Labor Relations Act.
The Intellectual Property team of attorneys and paralegals handles various aspects of intellectual property, technology and computer law, representing clients before the Patent and Trademark Office and the Copyright Office, handling contract and transactional matters, and ensuring international intellectual property protection and licensing. The team litigates intellectual property cases in state and federal courts throughout the country.
Members of Parsons Behle & Latimer’s Corporate and Tax department regularly participate in the negotiation and documentation of complex business transactions, furnishing timely advice regarding securities, tax law, environmental impacts, employment law and other issues. Government Relations and Lobbying
Our practice encompasses administrative and regulatory law, election law and governmental relations. Many of the lawyers in this group have significant campaign and election experience, and counsel clients regarding the political process and complexities of election law.
