David R. McKinney is a registered patent attorney practicing primarily in the areas of domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecution. His specific areas of practice include a wide range of technologies including mechanical and electrical devices, ink jet and laser printing systems, video display and projection systems, medical devices, sporting goods, firearms and many other technologies. Mr. McKinney has also prepared opinions concerning patentability, infringement, and patent validity for clients in a wide range of business areas.

Prior to joining the firm, in private practice, Mr. McKinney served as outside patent counsel for the Hewlett-Packard Company for more than eight years and as outside patent counsel for the Idaho National Laboratory.  He also worked as an intern at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  Mr. McKinney is a licensed professional civil engineer and before pursuing a legal career, worked as a civil engineer in Boise, Idaho.

He is active in civic affairs and is currently a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission for West Jordan, Utah. He is licensed to practice in the states of Utah and Idaho.
